SA KAEO
Sa Kaeo was split from Prachin Buri in 1993 and is an important centre
for trade between Thailand and Cambodia, primarily through the border
town of Aranyaprathet.
ARANYAPRATHET
Aranyaprathet, called " Aran " for short, is a traditional
border crossing point between Thailand and Cambodia located 255
km east of Bangkok. The border is home to a huge market of Cambodian
and Chinese produce, but while local traders cross back and forth
regularly the border is not open to foreign travellers.
TRAVEL
Train There are only two trains per day to Aran from Hua Lumpong,
leaving at 6 a.m. and 1:10 p.m. The trip takes about five hours.
Return trains leave Aran at 6:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m., arriving at
Hua Lamphong at 11:50 a.m. and 7:15 p.m.
The train line from Hua Lamphong to Aran continues on all the way
to Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Trains haven't gone past Aran for about
20 years, but plans are underway to reopen the line in the near
future. Bus Air-conditioned and regular buses leave Morchit Northern
Bus Terminal every hour or two during the day until 6 p.m.
