Mukdahan, situated on the banks of the Mekong river, has become an important marketplace for cheap goods from Laos, Vietnam, and China. Stalls line the main river-front promenade and stretch back into the centre of the town. Most people visiting Mukdahan spend their time shopping or eating. There is a large variety of restaurants with excellent views of the river and across to Laos.
